Heard today all men over 42 years old will be discharged if they desire. Have a notion to try it.

The Lt. called me in the office & wants me to go to Consolidated Lab to learn neg cutting. $1.80 extra a day. Think I’ll try it for awhile. Its a little rough out of the Army right now. I’m home everyday anyway so I’ll stick around awhile

Heard today VE was proclaimed in Europe but will not be officially until 9:00 tomorrow when President Truman tells of it over the radio.
Tue, May 8, 1945
Furlough started today for 15 days. Also the end of the war in Germany & Europe. Unconditional surrender.
