Painted our Heaven Gates set all day & then Shindler & Sharkey & Zell & I went to town. We went to the Hollywood Canteen & couldn’t get in, crowded. We went up to the USO & got tickets to Lucky Luger broadcast over KFAC. All the beer girls to dance with & sandwiches from 8 to 12. We went to the Canteen then saw the floor show & then at 12:00 went to the Florentine Gardens. Swell floor show. Camp at 2:30.

Got up at 7:45, ate & was back at our job at 9:30. We should of worn our gas mask from 9:00 to 9:30. So we cleaned up our barracks & wrote letters. We almost finished getting straightened up today. McGovern gave me his stripes & I sewed them on tonite after writing a couple of letters home. We had an air raid alert tonite.

Beautiful weather now. Took a sunbath this morning & played poker all afternoon. It is terribly hot at night in the cabin. Can’t sleep.
